'Neighborhood Unit' is a series of photographs that highlights the characteristics of neighborhood units in Dubai, UAE. A neighborhood unit is an early urban model for residential development within a city’s metropolis. This idea was implemented by the late John Harris through his early urban plans of Dubai in the 1960s. While some units have been altered or demolished, only a few today have withstood the changes to the urban fabric. This ongoing exploration aims to shed light on the characteristics of neighborhoods that maintains the promise of a ‘human scale’ within the urban sprawl.
