Autonomous Landscapes

photographic montage/collage

Autonomous Landscapes is a photographic montage that explores the obscure nature of our surrounding environment. The series of collages aims to deconstruct objects, often rocks, into particles that are rearranged in an ambiguous manner to create a new form of landscape; one that is self-governing.

Each fragment is cut from a collection of photographs taken at different terrains ranging from red rock cliffs, alpine forests, coastal seas and temperate desserts. Working from a variety of object scales, particles are composed in a delicate manner to create an elusive composition of space, one that is contrary to an ordinary landscape. Pieces float freely on a white canvas, alluring the viewer to reflect on the consequences of intervention on our natural landscape. Whether it be viewed as a body of ruin or landmark, the collages act as a threshold to the uncertain future of our surrounding environment.
